The Good, Bad, & Ugly on FAT

You’ve heard of the diet industry, it’s been around since women have wanted to be skinny. It’s a powerful force, body image has a strong impact on what women in particular, but there are men who also have a desire to sculpt and control the way their bodies look. The diet industry fist said don’t eat fat because it will make you fat. That seems simple, so it might make sense. BUT IT’S UNTRUE! Fat gives us energy and provides nutrients our cells need and happy cells = healthy body. BUT it depends on the type of fat we are consuming.

There is saturated, polyunsaturated, monounsaturated, hydrogenated, trans, and semi-hydrogenated fat. It can be confusing. Here is the gist of it: stay away from chemicals. Read the label. Avoid trans fats and hydrogenated fat – THEY ARE THE BAD FAT THAT WILL OVER TIME CAUSE CANCER. This includes margarine… It’s something that surprises my clients, because they have been taught through marketing that margarine is better than butter. It’s the other way around. Margarine is hydrogenated fat that is actually spoiled oil that is processed at high pressure and heat, making the molecules unbalanced and able to pick up free radicals (hydrogen or other molecules that could cause cancer to grow once they are inside you). Oh and THE UGLY the end product of margarine is actually grey and is dyed yellow to look more appealing. I just learned this last year, you just don’t know what you don’t know. What I’ve learned is there are a lot of secrets in the food industry and how food is processed.

SO THE GOOD. The best sources of the best fat, monounsaturated fat, are nuts, seeds, avocados, olives, and certain fish. These are foods you could eat every day or should aim for a few times a week, but also in moderation. You can over do it, too much of anything is not good for you.

Keep it simple, eat as natural as you can, consider where your food comes from. Like the saying goes: you are what you eat.

I would love to chat more with you about this subject, it gets me a little fired up. Join me and a small group of women for an intimate seminar:
